Welcome

Giuseppe Occhi - Mayor of BormioOnce again we have kept our traditional appointment with the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup downhill race, a competition which recognises the added value bestowed on our land by the legendary Stelvio slope.
Bormio is buoyed by renewed enthusiasm as it prepares to tackle the organisation required by this event and aims to ensure enjoyment before, during and after the race.
The packed programme of initiatives surrounding the race on 29th December will highlight the close, mutual partnership between the Magnifica Terra and skiing: with its athletes, technicians and infrastructures Bormio has helped add prestige to this sport as much as skiing has helped to shape the image of our town.
On behalf of all the residents, I am delighted to give a very warm welcome to the entire White Circus and hope we can all enjoy these days full of the sport, culture and nature that make the host resorts so unique.

Monica Rizzi - Councillor for Sport and YouthSport is fundamental way of promoting our region, which is why we have chosen to support the great sports events that place Lombardy firmly in the international spotlight. These events include December’s traditional end-of-year downhill race in Bormio, which has become an established stopover for the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup: a spectacular slope for one of the most enthralling races on the White Circus calendar, a venue with an unparalleled ability to brilliantly promote the resort which, when combined with the nearby the Brescian mountains, represents the crème de la crème of winter tourism in Lombardy.
This goes beyond marketing the region: the support given to this event is part of the largest policy implemented by the Lombardy Region to maximise the mountains and their sports and tourism facilities. Hosting such a big race means creating an important opportunity for development and
growth for the area and its businesses.
I would especially like to thank the organisers as it is their commitment, passion and efficiency that have enabled us to host the event again this year.

Alberto Pasina - Councillor for Tourism, Province of SondrioOur province’s natural beauty and wonderful towns, efficient resorts and organisational capacity undoubtedly offer the very best for everyone who comes here to enjoy a well-earned relaxing break or to watch a sports event in the winter. Therefore it comes as no surprise that for many years the FIS calendar has always included one of the most spectacular and technically demanding races of the entire White Circus on the Stelvio slope in Bormio.
Over the years this event has demonstrated its exceptional sporting value and Bormio has always tried to include it on its yearly calendar to reward the many skiers and fans that can’t wait to have fun on the legendary slope. Bormio and this important race never fail to attract the attention of the mass media, the press and television networks from across the globe, providing a unique showcase for the Magnifica Terra, Valtellina and winter sports.
So this is a wonderful opportunity to show that our land and our mountains are the ideal destination for relaxation and wellbeing.

Stefano Maullu - Councillor for Trade, Tourism and Services, Lombardy RegionDear Fans,
Once again Bormio will play host to the Alpine Ski World Cup races. Ranked as one of the most famous international ski resorts, Bormio is a paragon of natural beauty and one of the most stunning areas in Lombardy. It becomes more popular with every passing year. Bormio has been one of the top resorts for organising world-class races for almost twenty years. Events such as the Alpine Ski World Championships in 1985, when the world-famous Stelvio slope made its debut, and again in 2005 as well as countless World Cup races have definitely helped to cement Bormio’s popularity.
First and foremost we should commend the organisers who wholeheartedly invest their commitment, professionalism and passion to bring us a truly unmissable event. I would also like to extend a special thanks to everyone working in the tourism industry for their invaluable help and to all the many volunteers without whom all this would not be possible.
Finally, I would like to wish a very warm welcome on behalf of the Lombardy Region to all the fans and followers of this magnificent winter sport, to the athletes, national federations, team managers, technicians, sports organisations, our financial partners, and friends from the press and television who work together to ensure that Bormio’s great sporting tradition is a resounding and enjoyable success.
